Un LED emette luce a causa della luminescenza elettrica. \u00c8 anche conosciuta come &quot;luce fredda&quot; in quanto, a differenza delle vecchie lampadine a incandescenza, la luce non viene prodotta riscaldando un filamento metallico. Il diodo, d&#039;altra parte, emette luce quando scorre attraverso due semiconduttori di silicio appositamente rivestiti. \u00c8 uno dei modi pi\u00f9 efficienti e a basso consumo energetico per produrre luce.<\/p><p>Un LED \u00e8 costituito da materiali solidi senza parti mobili ed \u00e8 spesso modellato in plastica trasparente. Ci\u00f2 garantisce un&#039;elevata durata. Quando un LED \u00e8 acceso, emette quasi zero calore. Ci\u00f2 riduce il problema del raffreddamento delle parti elettroniche.<\/p><p>Il primo LED \u00e8 stato creato dall&#039;inventore russo Oleg Losev nel 1927. Per molti anni \u00e8 stato possibile produrre solo LED a infrarossi, rossi e gialli. Questi diodi sono stati trovati in tutto, dai telecomandi alle radiosveglie.<\/p><p>Non \u00e8 stato fino al 1994 che lo scienziato giapponese Shuji Nakamura \u00e8 stato in grado di dimostrare un LED blu efficiente. Variando la luminosit\u00e0 di ciascun LED, i diodi formano insieme un&#039;immagine sul display.<\/p><p>Per creare un&#039;immagine dai colori brillanti, vengono utilizzati i principi della miscelazione dei colori additiva, per cui vengono creati nuovi colori mescolando la luce in diversi colori. Un display a LED \u00e8 costituito da LED rossi, verdi e blu montati in uno schema fisso. Questi tre colori si combinano per formare un pixel. Regolando l&#039;intensit\u00e0 dei diodi, si possono formare miliardi di colori.
